13 Becomes 14 With Greg Hopp Driving
Longtime Seattle based unlimited hydroplane crewman and crew chief Jay Leckrone has annouced that he has leased Dave Bartush’s 13 Spirit of Detroit and will campaign it with the number 14 under the team name Centurion Racing for the 2013 H1 Unlimited racing season.
Leckrone has been active in the sport since 1987 when he joined the crew of Bill Wurster’s Mr. Pringles. Recently, he has been Dr. Ken Muscatel’s crew chief for the 25 Superior Racing. Leckrone is receiving assistance from Dr. Muscatel and operates out of the Superior Racing shop in Burien, Washington.
Leckrone expects to make the entire 2013 H1 circuit with veteran Greg Hopp doing the driving.
Greg Hopp is the son of long time driver Jerry Hopp and has been driving Unlimiteds since 1998. From 1999 to 2012 he was the primary driver for Leland Unlimited, racing in the colors of Mirage Boats, Beacon Plumbing, Znetics, PICO and other sponsors.
Hopp has also been a front-runner in the Unlimited Light and Grand Prix classes since 2007, scoring many victories and multiple national championships. He holds the 1 Mile closed course record for Grand Prix boats and the Unlimited Light Kilo record at 160+.
