Rock N Roll N Roosterails!

RnR HeaderThere is a definite Rock N Roll look and feel to the 2013 H1 Unlimited Racing Season.  Following on the heels of the announcement that Detroit native Kid Rock had partnered with the Detroit APBA Gold Cup to sponsor Free Friday with two of his companies, Made in Detroit and American Badass Beer, former Guns N Roses bassist Duff McKagan announced that his new band Walking Papers will be performing at Seattle’s Seafair.

Seafair’s announcement that McKagan, the Grand Marshall of Seafair’s 2012 Torchlight Parade, would be part of the 2013 Albert Lee Cup at Seafair, came just days after 20,000 runners took part in Seafair’s annual Rock N Roll marathon. The race features live rock bands and cheerleaders at each mile marker.

The sponsorship from Kid Rock’s two Michigan based companies restores the 104th-annual Detroit APBA Gold Cup to a three-day schedule running July 12-14. The 2013 races had previously been slated to be condensed into two days due to budget constraints.

“We are proud to partner with the Gold Cup races to bring back Free Friday to the city of Detroit, and we are excited to give race fans a chance to sample Badass Beer. Not only Born In Michigan, but now Made In Detroit,” said Thomas Dubak, VP of Sales, American Badass Beer, Co. “We have big things lined up for the weekend, including Badass games with Badass giveaways including the chance to win free front row tickets to an upcoming Kid Rock show this August at DTE Energy Music Theatre.”

“Thanks to the generosity and support from Kid Rock, Made In Detroit and American Badass Beer, we are able to once again offer Free Friday, which historically has been one of our biggest community-focused days at the races,” said Mark Weber, Event Director for the Detroit River Regatta Association.

The cold pits open at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 12, while time trials, testing and qualifying begin at noon.

“Friday gives fans the opportunity to watch more action on the water, see more of the drivers, spend more time on the river, all at no cost to them,” said Tom Bertolini, President of the Detroit River Regatta Association.

McKagan’s new band, Walking Papers, is composed of established members of the vibrant Seattle music community and brings decades of experience, dedication and edge to the city’s rock scene. The band’s music is instantly familiar, yet profoundly forward-thinking, blending impactful singer/songwriting. Classic Rock magazine voted Walking Papers one of the Top 20 bands of the year. The list also included iconic bands like Led Zeppelin, Rush and Black Sabbath.

Members of the band include, Duff McKagan (Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver) on bass, Jefferson Angell on guitar and lead vocals, multi-instrumentalist Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees, Mad Season) and Benjamin Anderson (Missionary Position) on Keyboards.

In another timely and appropriate release, Seafair announced that the official energy drink of the Albert Lee Cup at Seafair will be…..Rockstar.
