The View From the Cockpit: Patrick Sankuer
This year, H1 Unlimited Hydroplane drivers will write blogs for a feature on the H1Unlimited.com website. The blogs will give the fans an idea of what the drivers are thinking, their feelings, their ideas and more about this great sport. Enjoy the feature and give us your feedback on Facebook. We want to thank rookie Patrick Sankuer for writing the first blog. Enjoy.

I have raced outboards; I have raced inboards, but I definitely have never been more excited than looking forward to my first unlimited hydro race as a driver in Madison. Today, I can only imagine what this experience will feel like.
I can see it now. U-12 Miss Dijulio owner and crew chief Jay Leckrone will want to talk about the boat, about the turbine, about the onboard computer, about the temperatures, about the canard and all that reporting reporting data to the team when I get back to the dock . But I kind of laugh inside because I already know what is going to happen when I pilot the U-12 Miss Dijulio for the first time on the Ohio River.
I’m going to be so stoked I will not remember to do any of that!
This is going to be a thrill of a lifetime. To drive an unlimited hydroplane has been a career goal, and I am definitely looking forward to fulfilling a dream.
I know it will be a challenge, There is a lot of great talent on the water this year, and we will have our work cut out for us this season.
I am happy that my brother Jeff and I fit in really well with the entire U-12 team. We have become more in tune with each other over the past winter, and these winter months gets me excited about the future of our team in the next few years.
I appreciate the opportunity that has been given to me by Jay and Denise along with the DiJulio family. I look forward to seeing everyone in Madison, Please come up to the U-12 Miss DiJulio – San Genarro Foods -Red Roof Inn –Shooters Bar and Grill Unlimited Hydroplane and say ‘Hi.’ Come on up early to Madison. Friday night after the Parade, we will be having a U-12 Miss Dijulio meet and greet with the team and yours truly.
Hey, you’re never too old to be a Rookie!
