MADISON, IND (July 4, 2015) Saturday’s Ohio River conditions for the 61st running of the Indiana Governor’s Cup continue to improve. The river continues to recede and H1 Hydro officials have announced that the Unimited class will not run for the second day in a row.
Instead the Grand Prix hydros, support class to H1 Unlimited have been positioned into the available pit area real estate and will run on Saturday. The course buoys have been placed in anticipation of racing.
Chairman Steve David said,” We are creating the thunder today and the lightning tomorrow. We want to show the fans here the two types of racing vehicles and affords our ESPN3 viewers the opportunity to learn about the two unique classes of hydroplane racing.”
The area has not seen rain for over 48 hours and officials controlling the dams at both ends of the course have been in contact and continue to work with local race personal.
H1 Unlimited’s plan is to run the GP’s today, move them out of the available pit area and move the Unlimited’s in place so they will be ready to run first thing Sunday morning.
“We are more than ready to race,” Charlie Grooms team manager for the hometown defending national champion ‘U-1 Oberto/Miss Madison’ said.
All 11 H1 Unlimited teams have had two days to prepare their engines and boats including last year’s race winner J. Michael Kelly in the ‘U-5 Graham Trucking’, second place ‘U-9 Miss RedDot/Les Schwab Tire’, and third place finisher driver Cal Phipps and his new team of ‘U-27 Dalton Industries’.
