2014 Oryx Cup Dates Announced
His Excellency Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani, president of the Qatar Marine Sports Federation and H1 Unlimited Chairman Sam Cole have announced the 2014 running of the Oryx Cup UIM World Championship will take place November 20 – 22 on Doha Bay.
The 2014 Oryx Cup will mark the sixth time the event has been held in Qatar, where the Unlimited Hydroplane series from the USA has become one of the featured events in the QMSF’s ambitions schedule of racing on Doha Bay, which has grown to include many types and classes of boat racing.
Sheikh Hassan commented, “All of us here at the QMSF are excited to see the H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Series coming back to Doha. The Unlimited race will be a big part of a very exciting 2014 season for us and the timing couldn’t be any better. I am sure everyone will feel at home when they are here.”
Cole agreed, saying, “I speak for everyone involved with the H1 Series; owners, drivers, crew members and officials, when I say our annual trip to Qatar has become the highlight of our season and we all look forward to enjoying the tremendous welcome and hospitality we receive from Sheikh Hassan and the staff of the QMSF when we return to the beautiful city of Doha in November.”
Cole added that the top ten H1 teams, after the conclusion of the domestic season in San Diego in September, will again be invited to make the trip to the Middle East, meaning the 2014 Season High Point Championship will likely be settled at the Oryx Cup along with the UIM World Championship.
Cole also explained that the H1 Series has renewed the agreement with the CBS Sports Network for 2014 and the Oryx Cup will be part of the televised series, with an air date sometime in December reaching over 60 million households in the US.
H1 Unlimited race teams are currently preparing for the 2014 racing season which will begin with the Madison Regatta on the Ohio River July 5 – 7.
