U-25 Team Wins Streamlight "Light It Up" Award
The herculean effort to have the U-25 Car Pros in the Albert Lee Cup at Seafair following the serious damage sustained by the hull in the Lamb Weston Columbia Cup has earned the team the Streamlight "Light It Up" Award for the event.

The award goes to an individual or team whose effort  produces one of the event's brightest moments.

Eric Mills from Streamlight's corporate headquarters in Eagletown, Pennsylvania  attended Seafair and presented trophies to the previous award winners.               Photos by Chris Denslow

As racing got underway in the Albert Lee Cup at Seafair, the favorites held court in heats 1A and 1B.

Steve David led heat 1A from Start to finish in the U-1 Oh Boy! Oberto and Dave Villwock in the U-96 Spirit of Qatar won heat 1B just as easily.

There was good racing behind the leaders in both heats as Greg Hopp in the U-100 Lay's Kettle Cooked and Brian Perkins in the U-21 Miss Albert Lee Appliance were both among the front runners in heat 1A until Perkins was penalized a lap for stiking a bouy and Hopp had an engine stall while running in second place.

Saturday morning on Lake Washington, 22 year old Kayleigh Perkins Mallory became the first female to pull away from the Stan Sayres Pits in an unlimited hydroplane since 1982 and the first ever in a turbine powered unlimited.

In her first opportunity to pilot one of the fastest boats in the world - the U-1 Oh Boy! Oberto - she did much more than just run a few easy laps.

Her third lap speed of 146.368 tied her brother Brian's best qualifying lap from Friday in the U-21 Miss Albert Lee Appliance.  She then ran one faster at 147.058 which would have qualified her 5th on the unlimited ladder, just ahead of her brother.
