After a 30-year absence from the racing scene, Billy Schumacher--a two-time Gold
Cup winner and three-time National Champion driver--returned for the 2006 season
with a boat of his own, the MISS BEACON PLUMBING, and won three races with Jean
Theoret at the wheel. These included the APBA Gold Cup on the Detroit River and
the UIM World Championship on San Diego's Mission Bay.
The U-37 team
recorded no victories in 2007 but placed third in National High Points for the
season.
MISS BEACON PLUMBING experienced disappointment on several
occasions in 2008 but finished first in "Thunder On The Ohio" at Evansville,
Indiana, and second in the Bill Muncey Cup at San Diego.
The 2009
campaign began on a sour note when the U-37 crashed at the season-opener in
Madison, Indiana, seriously injuring pilot Theoret. Jean recovered in time to
place fourth in the Oryx Cup/World Championship Race in Doha, Qatar, with new
sponsor PETERS & MAY USA, the well-known global marine logistics
firm.
Driver Profile
JW MYERS: Myers Unlimited career began in 2003 with Fred Leland’s U-100 team, where he was fastest qualifier in San Diego and earned Rookie of the Year Honors. In 2004, he drove the U-8 (now the U-37) for Bill Wurster. Driving half a season for Erick Ellstrom in the U-16 in 2005, Myers scored the single victory of his career in Madison and finished second twice. In 2006, JW served as crewman and driver for Kim Gregory’s U-10.
John W Myers III began his racing career in 1982 at age 9, following in the footsteps of his father John, a well known outboard racer. He soon made a name as an outboard runabout driver, scoring four national high point championships and setting 11 world records in a 20-year career. In 1999, he moved to the Unlimited Lights series, driving Bob Larimore’s UL 23 Pegasus until 2001. He was also the UL Rookie of the Year in 1999.
Myers is 36 years old and makes his home in Burien, Washington, where he is a roofing contractor
Driver Profile
JON ZIMMERMAN: Jon started racing scale electric hydroplanes in 1991. Later raced A stock style hydroplanes with a group of friends
Thursday evenings in the summers at Stan Sayers. He then bought a raced a 2.5 stock hydro, which became one of the fastest boats in
the country. He won four regional championships and finished second in
the nation twice.
In 2004 Jon built a new 5 liter. With that boat, he set all four world records
and missed a national championship by 13 points.
Dr Ken Muscatel gave Jon the opportunity to share the seat in the U-25 in 2009. His impressive handling of his first unlimited made him the ideal choice to sub for injured JW Myers in the U-37 Miss Peters and May.
