Air National Guard Renews Partnership
The Air National Guard is back this summer for more 200-mph thrills on the water, announcing Thursday it will return as title partner for H1 Unlimited’s 2012 North American tour.
The Air National Guard Hydroplane Series features the fastest and most exciting hydroplane race boats in the world, competing before more than 500,000 fans at stops across the United States. Up to a dozen teams will battle it out on the water at the festival-style events.
“The hydroplane race partnership is really an exciting way for us to reach out to a very special group of people—of course I am talking about those who are ready to accept the challenge of a lifetime—joining the Air National Guard,” said Col Marie Wauters, Chief of Air Guard Recruiting and Retention.
“To be part of the Air National Guard takes great teamwork and skill, it’s no different than a successful Unlimited hydroplane team,” said Sam Cole, H1 Unlimited’s chairman. “Our owners, drivers and teams are proud to once again represent the men and women of the Air National Guard.”
ANG will serve as the title partner of the races and an exhibition event in the United States. After the tour concludes its season in North America, the teams will travel to Doha, Qatar in November for the season-ending Oryx Cup UIM World Championships.
Air Guard recruiters will be onsite to share stories about the vital missions they provide to the country, local communities and the nation during national disasters, civil disturbances and assisting with homeland defense. The Air Guard only requires part-time service but offers full-time rewards.
The Air National Guard teamed up with H1 Unlimited in 2011 for what turned out to be a historic year. Veteran driver Dave Villwock became the sport’s all-time winningest driver, surpassing the great Bill Muncey’s career race victories.
“The Air National Guard Hydroplane Series races in large markets that have a deep passion and understanding of our sport,” Cole said. “The fans have been great supporters of hydroplane racing in the past and are excited we’re growing our fan base internationally.”
If hydroplane race fans can’t make it to one of the races this season, they can either watch it streamed live on the internet at www.h1unlimited.com or catch the broadcast on cable television. Cole is expected to announce a cable broadcast partner in the coming weeks.
