New Look For 11 Peters & May
The Air National Guard H1 Unlimited Hydroplane season debuts at the Madison Regatta July 6-8 which will also mark the unveiling of the newly re-branded U-11 Peters & May; the team will return to the Peters & May signature “chartreuse racing yellow” and a new graphics package.
“It’s all about visibility,” according to U-11 Team Manager Shannon Raney, clarifying “Not just visibility for our sponsors – which doesn’t hurt, but in low visibility situations, it’s hard not to see that boat!”
The re-branding of the U-11 Peters & May incorporates a red, white and blue graphics package reflecting the team’s roots in both the United States and United Kingdom. The team number on the rear wing will depict the “U” as the United Kingdom’s Union Jack and the “11” as the Stars and Stripes, and both nations’ flags will adorn the hull on the port and starboard sides
“It’s a bit of national pride,” says Peters & May CEO David Holley, “With our home office in Southampton and our strong presence in the U.S., this boat design reflects our transatlantic team effort with U-11 as a symbol of our worldwide shipping and racing presence.” Peters & May works closely with sanctioning bodies and teams to grow boat racing worldwide, especially at the grassroots level and among young people. Peters & May is a Funding Partner of the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) Youth Development Program.
The new design and vinyls took two months and nearly 280 hours to complete, at a cost of $17,000; made possible in part through sponsorships with PPG Industries for paint and decals from Messenger Corp. in Seattle, WA. West Coast Collision Center in Mountlake Terrace, WA, the U-11 team’s long-time paint and body vendor did the work and has been a supporter since the team’s start.
“There were quite a few 3:00 a.m. sessions,” Raney explains, noting that the base coat is a newer paint that requires additional application and drying time due to its protective qualities; an added layer of PPG’s clear coat shield tops everything on the boat and adds additional resilience to the paint’s high-gloss and high-glow color.
The U-11 Peters & May will begin its 2,400 mile trek to the Indiana Governor’s Cup on Friday, June 29. If you see the team along the way, give them a wave – or better yet – snap a quick picture and post it to the U-11 and Peters & May Racing Facebook pages.
