Seafair Opener Sets World Record
Seattle Seafair kicked off their 65th Anniversary celebration Sunday with an event in Seattle’s Westlake Center that set a world record.
The record was for the biggest field of miniature wooden hydros to be towed around a race course at one time. The course circled two blocks of downtown Seattle, making it about .6 miles in length. Competitors towed the boats behind bicycles, wagons, skooters, runners, walkers and an actual walker.
Art Oberto manned the walker and received a big cheer from the crowd as he crossed the finish line in good time Earlier, Larry Oberto was knighted by Seafair and should now be addressed as Sir Larry.
Chip Hanauer introduced the 2014 Seafair King and Queen – former Seahawk Marcus Trufant and former State Governor Christine Gregoire.
