Ellstrom Racing’s U-16 OH BOY! Oberto Set For Seafair
SEATTLE, WA, July 27, 2017 – The 2017 H1 Unlimited racing season for the U-16 OH BOY! Oberto will open with the Albert Lee Appliance Seafair Cup on Lake Washington August 4, 5 and 6.
Team owner Erick Ellstrom said, “We look forward to another opportunity to race in our home town and represent Oberto, one of Seattle’s oldest and most respected companies. The boat is ready, the team is ready, and we will do our best to put Oberto back in the winners circle at Seafair.”
In the Oberto company’s world headquarters in Kent, Senior Vice President of Marketing, David Lakey said, “We are stoked that Ellstrom Racing’s “U-16 OH BOY! Oberto” retro-graphics boat will again be entered in the unlimited hydro races on Lake Washington. All of us at Oberto are looking forward to a great weekend at Seafair – Seattle’s biggest party of the year!”
The U-16 will be driven in Seattle by J.W. Myers, returning to the team where he scored his first and only victory on the H1 circuit. Myers drove Ellstrom Racing’s Miss Elam Plus to victory in Madison, Indiana in 2005 and finished second the following week in Detroit.
Myers subbed for Cal Phipps in the U-27 Wiggins Racing in Madison over the 4th of July weekend and picked up most of the laps needed for re-qualification as an H1 Unlimited driver.
Myers explained, “You need to run 15 laps with H1 officials watching and 10 of your laps need to be above 130 mph. Running conservatively and staying on the outside, I had a lot of 128’s and 129’s but Don Melillo (H1 official) had nine of my laps above 130, so I should need one more to be re-qualified.”
Crew Chief Mike Hanson and the Ellstrom Racing Team will move the U-16 OH BOY! Oberto into the Stan Sayres pit area on Lake Washington on Thursday August 3 and prepare for testing and qualifying on Friday the 4th.
