At The Shop – Jones Racing
Jones Racing Crew Chief Jeff Campbell and his team have been busy during the off-season updating the team’s race boat in hopes of improving on a very good showing in 2013.
Changes made to the boat prior to the 2013 season produced a top five contender and Campbell feels the additional fine tuning should produce continued improvement in speed and performance for driver Jon Zimmerman.
The hull now has new decks from the sponsons to the transom and a new center deck. The belly pan and half of the bottom are also new.
The trailing edge of the center section has been reshaped at the transom and the entire transom area has been reconfigured to a more modern design.
The most significant change may be the one Campbell is keeping close to the vest. He did say it had to do with the location of the driveline, where a very subtle change can be a difference maker.
The team will have multiple bull-noses available for adjusting the boat ride in varying conditions.
Campbell expects to have four turbine engines and four gear boxes ready for the season opener and says he hopes to make the entire tour after securing some sponsorship along the way.
