At The Shop – Miss Madison Racing
When the Oh Boy! Oberto hydroplane returned to the shop in Madison, Indiana at the end of the 2013 racing season, it signaled the end of an era for the team with the retirement of driver, Steve David. After taking time to honor their 6-time National Driver Champion with a hometown reception in early November, attention turned to the beginning of another bright new era for the Miss Madison Racing Team. Jimmy Shane, 2014 H1 Unlimited Series Driver champion, will take over the cockpit of the U6.
Longtime Miss Madison sponsor, Oberto Sausage Company, returns for 2014 celebrating 40 years of unlimited hydroplane sponsorship. The company has launched new branding initiatives for its all natural American-made jerky products along with the Oh Boy! Oberto Classics line. A transition in name to Oberto and new paint scheme are planned for the U6 to reflect these changes and to celebrate the 40th anniversary.
The majority of the crew will be back for the season and for the first time since 2009, the team has had an extended offseason to repair, maintain and modify the hull in preparation for 2014. Larry Hanson has been busy at the shop, getting engines race ready and improving the gearboxes. Jimmy Gilbert is in the shop to work on the electrical systems as Steve Dean and other local crew members are prepping the hull for paint. The race truck will also have a new look as final decisions are made on the design. You can follow the team’s progress through www.MissMadisonHydro.com and our Facebook page, “Oh Boy! Oberto Unlimited Hydroplane”.
Careful consideration is being given to the applications received for the open Crew Chief position. The team will be making an announcement when the timing is appropriate.
