Miss HomeStreet Bank Press Release
We are pleased to announce the return of Jimmy Shane to the cockpit of the HomeStreet Bank sponsored U-1 unlimited hydroplane and the promotion of Dan Hoover to Crew Chief for the 2016 season. Jimmy’s return is based on the planning and preparation under Team Manager Charlie Grooms, new Crew Chief Dan Hoover and the experienced Miss Madison team.
“Miss Madison Inc. and our racing partner, HomeStreet Bank are extremely pleased that Jimmy Shane will continue to pilot the world’s only community owned hydroplane. Events of the last several weeks have reshaped our focus and with the promotion of Dan Hoover as crew chief we couldn’t be more excited to start a campaign to repeat our National Champion efforts. Jimmy and Dan have worked together for many years, are close friends and have been a part of our team’s success the last 2 years which makes Dan’s promotion to crew chief very seamless,” said Charlie Grooms, Team Manager of Miss Madison Inc.
Jimmy added, “The team has made great strides over the last few weeks in its racing plan for the 2016 season. The team is once again setting itself up to be a top contender and looking forward to defending both our H1 Unlimited National High Points Championships and APBA Gold Cup victories. I am also looking forward to the new partnership with HomeStreet Bank and working to promote their company. The past month has raised some awareness in keeping the team focused on continued success and I would like to extend a big thank you to the fans and supporters of the team who helped to make my decision to return as the driver for such a great team an easy one.”
Primary goals for the U-1 this season will be to represent new sponsor HomeStreet Bank well and to extend the team’s streak of H1 Unlimited National High Points Championships and APBA Gold Cup wins to three in a row.
Jimmy Shane, Driver U-1 Miss HomeStreet Bank:
Since being named APBA Region 4 Rookie of the Year in 2001, Jimmy has continued to impress in the unlimited class. He has collected two U.I.M. World Championship titles, three H1 Unlimited Season Driver championships, won the coveted APBA Gold Cup two times and brought two H1 Unlimited High Points championships to the Miss Madison team.
Jimmy is an Integration Engineer for Blue Origin, LLC in Kent, Washington. Jimmy and wife, Bianca, both hail from boat racing families. They reside in Maple Valley, WA with their sons, Colton and Hudson.
Dan Hoover, Crew Chief U-1 Miss HomeStreet Bank:
Dan Hoover’s racing career started in 1996 when he purchased a Pro Stock flat bottom boat from Al LaPointe (Security Race Products) and Jim Codling (racer, Official).
A short time later Dan was hired to assist with the turbine engine and dynamometer testing program for the new Appian Graphics Jeronimo team by former Unlimited hydroplane driver and Appian Crew Chief John Walters. In 2001, Dan moved to the Las Vegas, Nevada area and joined Kim Gregory’s U.S.A. Racing Partners U-10 unlimited team. Dan was in charge of the engine program, learned hull repair and race set-up. In 2004, Dan became Crew Chief.
In 2005, he moved to Florida to work for Mystic Power Boats where he was Crew Chief and test driver for the factory turbine-powered race catamarans. During this time he oversaw construction and rigging of the race cats and a 70 foot express yacht.
While Dan was “away” from the Unlimiteds, his talents were still in high demand in the sport. In 2006, Dan assisted the U-7 Formula Boats.com II unlimited hydroplane team as they won their first National Championship at San Diego’s Bayfair. In subsequent years, Dan was offered other Crew Chief positions, but waited for the right fit.
In 2013, he returned to unlimited racing with the Decatur, Indiana-based Graham Trucking U-5 Unlimited team, winning the World and Season championship.
In 2014, Dan joined the Miss Madison team, winning the H1 Unlimited National High Points Championship and APBA Gold Cup in 2014 and 2015. With the Madison team, he has had a number of different responsibilities, including propellers, shore to cockpit radio communications and engine / gearbox “on deck”.
Dan’s promotion to Crew Chief is another example of the team developing its “bench strength” from within. Dan has relocated to his new home of Madison, Indiana and looks forward to working with the community to develop the volunteer base of the #HomeStreetBank crew!
