ANG Series Will Be Streamed Live

When the World’s Fastest Race Boats take to the water in 2011, all of the exciting action of the 2011 Air National Guard Series will be streamed live in high definition on the H1 Unlimited website starting with the season opener in Madison, Ind., Fourth of July weekend.

Veteran hydroplane announcer Steve Montgomery will host the live streaming and handle the play-by-play for the Internet broadcasts. Each race will feature up to eight hours of live programming over the weekend and include racing action, driver interviews and team stories.

The live high-definition streaming on www.h1unlimited.com is in addition to the one-hour television shows that will appear Sunday afternoons on the Versus Network starting in October.

“Boat racing fans now have three ways to follow the exciting Air National Guard Series,” said Sam Cole, chairman of H1 Unlimited. “They can attend a race, watch it on their computer or iPad or wait for the television show on the Versus Network.”

With more consumers watching programs online and better technology, Cole said the live streaming opens the sport to a worldwide audience in a way that wasn’t possible just a few years ago.

“There is a new generation of fans that get their entertainment through a computer,” he said. “We’re confident once they watch an unlimited hydroplane race, they’ll love it.”

The live streaming program will be similar to a TV broadcast of a sporting event with multi camera coverage, special features and live interviews. Programming on race days (Saturday and Sunday) will start about a half hour before the first heat.

Steve Montgomery’s career as one of the top announcers in the sport dates back to the early 1970s. As a young fan he became a typical Seattle enthusiast. When his broadcast career took him from Eastern Washington to the Seattle market he had a chance to be involved in the sport. In 1974, he anchored the radio coverage of the Seafair race on KIRO radio where Ken Maurer of the Tri-City Waterfollies heard him. For the next 15 years, he was the PA voice of the Columbia Cup. His PA announcing has also taken him to Hawaii for 11 events as well as races in Phoenix, Dallas and Clear Lake and, more recently, Qatar.

In the 1980s, Steve worked with Don Poier, Dick Crippen and Jim Hendrick on the national TV coverage. He then became the TV anchor for network coverage on ESPN, ESPN2 and Speed Channel throughout the 1990s.

“Having watched the sport for more than 50 years and then having the opportunity to be involved with the great people and all the excitement the sport generates, it is especially exciting to see all the buzz the sport is creating in 2011,” Montgomery said.  “It’s going to be a very exciting season and I am really looking forward to being part of the worldwide coverage we will be producing on the Web.”

Montgomery is the owner of Montgomery Marketing & Communications, a Seattle Ad Agency, and has been very active in the public relations and marketing of the sport.

Broadcast production is being done by Tampa Digital, which will also handle the television show for H1 Unlimited. For optimal viewing of the broadcast on www.h1unlimited.com, viewers will need a high-speed Internet, DSL or faster, and the most up-to-date browser.
