SAN DIEGO, California – The 2026 H1 Unlimited season comes down to one final day of racing at San Diego Bayfair, with Andrew Tate and Jimmy Shane separated by just 40 points in the battle for the National High Points Championship.
Friday opened the weekend on Mission Bay with testing and qualifying. Andrew Tate set the pace aboard the U-1 BWR Racing, posting the fastest speed in both sessions. Tate topped qualifying at 166.628 mph, ahead of Jimmy Shane in the U-27 Miss Apollo and Corey Peabody in the U-3 Tahoe Miss.
The action continued Saturday with the first heats of the weekend.
Tate carried his Friday speed into Heat 2A, driving the U-1 BWR Racing to victory with an average speed of 160.092 mph and the fastest lap of the heat at 161.556 mph. Shane and the U-27 Miss Apollo finished second, followed by Dylan Runne aboard the U-40 Bucket List Racing.
In Heat 2B, Peabody earned the victory aboard the U-3 Tahoe Miss with an average speed of 157.255 mph. Jamie Nilsen and the U-11 FLAV-R-PAC finished second, while J. Michael Kelly and the U-00 Maverick took third.
After two days of competition, the National High Points Championship remains extremely close. Tate heads into Sunday with 5,949 points, just 40 points ahead of Shane at 5,909. Peabody sits third with 4,611 points.
Sunday will determine both the 2026 National High Points Championship and the winner of the Bill Muncey Cup.
The final day begins with testing from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Pacific, followed by Heat 3A at 12:55 p.m., Heat 3B at 1:15 p.m. and the Bill Muncey Cup Final at 3:50 p.m.
