Albert Lee Cup at Seafair Qualifying
The most dramatic Friday afternoon qualification session of the 2012 Air National Guard Hydroplane racing season saw the top spots shuffled several times before settling into a familiar pattern.
The top three qualifiers were Dave Villwock, Steve David and Jimmy Shane, but it looked for a while like that order might be different.
Villwock posted the fastest time in the first round in the 1 Spirit of Qatar 96 only to have the 151.082 speed wiped out by a fuel flow violation.
Early in the second round, Shane drove the 5 Graham Trucking to a 148.981, eclipsing David’s first round 147.411 in the 6 Oh Boy! Oberto and giving Shane temporary possession of the top rung on the ladder.
But then things went back to form with Villwock running a legal 151.626 and David coming back with a 149.756 his second time out.
In a rare occurrence, Nate Brown in the 17 Miss Red Dot and JW Myers in the 11 Acura of Bellevue presents Miss Peters and May posted identical speeds of 145.636 to tie for fourth place.
With the tie-breaker being current series high points, Brown was placed fourth on the ladder and Myers fifth.
Racing begins Saturday with Heat 1A schedule for 3:10pm.
