GFTL Will Sub For USA In Doha
The No. 88 will be among the fleet when the H1 Unlimited Series moves to Doha, Qatar in January but it won’t be the 2012 season’s familiar black and gold 88, the former Budweiser T3 hull.
In a joint announcement today, USA Racing Partners of Las Vegas, Nevada and Go Fast Turn Left Racing of Maple Valley, Washington revealed plans to campaign GFTL’s green and white hull carrying the number 88 for the final race of the 2012 season, and the inaugural race of the 2013 season. Those races are being held back-to-back in Doha in January and February.
The 88 Degree Men sustained damage to the hull in the recent San Diego Bayfair and will be repaired in time for the Sacramento race May 30 – June 2, 2013.
“After San Diego, we found some structural damage that will require significant repairs,” explained Adam Gregory. “We want to take the time to get the boat back to 100% before Sacramento and the 2013 domestic races, so we made the decision to keep it in the shop and make the repairs necessary to get it to that point.”
Gregory added, “The February Doha race is a 2013 points race and we are fortunate to have a team with the quality of Greg and Brian O’Farrell’s available to represent us and score some points for the number 88.”
Go Fast Turn Left owner Greg O’Farrell said, “We are very happy to have the opportunity to participate in the two Doha races and to represent the USA Racing Partners while they make repairs to their boat. We will be back on the water as the 21 in Sacramento and plan to make the rest of the circuit in 2013.”
GTFL’s Brian Perkins will drive the replacement 88 in both events. 88 Degree Men driver Scott Liddycoat, the defending UIM World Champion, will miss the Doha races.
The January Oryx Cup will mark the fourth time the top ten teams in the Air National Guard H1 Unlimited Series have traveled to Doha.
UPDATE – GoFastTurnLeft will run the boat as the Snoqualmie Casino in Doha and plans to run a boat for the casino East of Seattle in the Pacific Northwest in 2013. Albert Lee Appliance will continue as sponsor of the 21 at Seafair.
